As school comes to an end, the kids go insane?

Our kids have been a little nuts lately behavior-wise (when I said they were having a quiet week yesterday, I meant as far as plans/friends over, etc. goes). Some are just having minor issues, here and there, and some might be thinking about getting a life insurance quote if they don’t get their act together. (Kidding! Kidding!)

I know a lot of it has to do with the summer approaching. School is winding down and the kids are on their last month before they are free to stay up late and sleep in. Some might be worried about their oldest sibling graduating from high school and moving to California soon after. (OMG I’m really not old enough to be the step mom of someone graduating from high school and going out on her own.. ) And for some I know it’s just plain old growing pains of the emotional kind.

All I know is I’m ready for another break. Seriously.

Working Late

I have to work late today as I’m covering someone else’s shift. It was nice to have a quiet morning alone to get things done. Except I got nothing done. I didn’t clean, do laundry, polish the furniture and baseball trophies (if we had any) or do dishes. I goofed off the entire morning. I should have a little bit of guilt for that, but.. I can’t say that I do. It was nice to goof off for a change!

It’s been interesting for me to see how things go on the night crew. It’s not that busy … but I am working alone. As such, there seems to be quiet periods, then blam! Everyone is calling/wanting something all at the same time. I almost feel like saying “take a number people!”

It’s also interesting that my kids have had a quiet week with nothing major going on. Until tonight. Everyone wanted to bring a friend over. Why tonight? They didn’t ask at all this week… only tonight. The ONE night I have to work late. How does that happen?

Clothing, I hates it

I’ve been reading too many lolcats. Can you tell from the title?

So I was looking through my closet today. And it depresses me. Half the clothes are too big. Half are too small. And yet, they all somehow manage to be plus size clothing. Well, that’s not totally true. They aren’t ALL plus-sized. When I was at my peak of my weight loss, I managed to fit into a few things that were purchased outside the “women’s” section. And technically I still can fit into shirts from some “normal” departments in the store. It still depresses me that most of my life I’ve never been able to fit into the cute and adorable outfits you see on mannequins in stores, and I wouldn’t dare buy clothing from a catalog.

The good news is I *have* been sticking to my goal of trying to do something every day to manage this diabetes and weight loss. I haven’t gone out and walked every day. And I lost track of the whole “keeping score” thing. I was kinda over that the next day if you couldn’t tell. But I’m still doing something daily, even if it just means making sure I get my meals in regularly and check my BG levels. That’s more than I was doing so this is a good thing.

BTW, speaking of lolcats, those who know me, especially in EQ2, know this one was made JUST for me!

Logo

I’ve been trying to come up with a logo design for my site. Something I can use no matter what site layout I choose. It’s not easy. It needs to be spacy (duh) and fun. But I can’t seem to come up with one.

I tried out Logoyes the other day. It’s a logo design site that lets you create your own with clipart they provide. It’s basically a six step process that took me all of 5 minutes to come up with this:

1. You choose your overall theme: High Tech, Bold, or Flair. I chose Flair.
2. Choose your industry… I don’t remember which industry I chose but didn’t matter because…
3. when choosing an image you can just search for a keyword. I chose “moon”
4. Added the name
5. Put the final touches on the overall layout. Here I could move the name and the graphic wherever I wanted, and choose the colors.
6. The last step is to buy the logo. I didn’t have to buy one to try out their logo creator though.

You can also choose business cards to match. I don’t need business cards but I had fun playing with it anyway. If I was in the market for business cards, I liked these two designs:

This would be perfect if my site was a business site. It was so simple to create these and I had fun messing around with it.

Spring Cleaning…

With my brother staying here, our garage is a mess.

OK it’s not my brother’s fault, it’s ours. It just sounded good to blame him. It was a mess long before he started storing a few things in it. It’s going to take a full weekend to clean it out. Since garage sale season is starting up we have no excuse. The problem is most of our junk is… junk. So I don’t know who’d want it.

We have camping gear, SCA gear (we’re not that into SCA anymore…), computer parts, boxes we think we need to save for computer parts, an extra desk we don’t need anymore, a broken TV, clothes the kids have outgrown, just… JUNK.

Some of it is stuff we need and/or use for camping and whatnot. I just want to get it more organized, even if that means freecycling it or hauling it all to the dump. Ultimately, we need to get ourselves some decent storage boxes, some Primera labels, and get it all cleaned up and tidy.

Who wants to help?
