CONVERSION HELL!!
Things were not quit right with JacknTracie.com when I switched to the new host. The comments broke a couple times and I couldn’t figure out how to get the search and more functions to work. I wracked my brain for days… only to finally give up and decide to convert to WordPress (which I love!). But to my dismay, I found that WordPress did not have a converter from pMachine. I saw on their features page they had one in the works, but I found a post on their site from over 8 months ago that stated that as well. I also read that converting from crappy pMachine to WordPress was difficult because… well to sum it up; pMachine sucks! It did what I needed it to do at the time but I no longer want to deal with it’s suckage.
Today I found a script that someone wrote on their own to convert pMachine over to WordPress. Yippy! I tried it and it broke things very very badly…. So badly it took me hours to restore everything. UGH! I even had to call the help of a friend to plea for help. Luckily he was able to show me what to do (a simple thing really) and all was restored. Well, except 5 posts. We lost a total of 5 posts. I can handle that. I couldn’t handle losing 4 YEARS worth of posts, though!
When I told this friend how things got so broken, he came to my rescue again and showed me another person who had found the issue with the original converter script. I did as it said and it worked! The only issue I can find at this point is all old posts say “No Comments” even though some do have comments. Maybe I’ll find a fix for that too.
The template is currently uglier than heck as it’s the default template but when my brain recovers from conversion hell, I’ll work on that too.
BTW, we decided to no longer require membership to view the site. I am tired of dealing with that… however, there may be posts from time to time that will require membership to view. That is, if I can figure out how to do that.
As for the posts that went missing…
There was one where I said something losing my job, one about Cody starting summer school, one long post containing details about losing my job, and two about the 4th of July: one where I wished everyone a Happy 4th, and one that discussed the clean up after. Nothing major was lost. And I don’t feel like re-creating them. Most of you know the story about my job anyway and it’s really not worth repeating. I was able to salvage the posts from the last two days though, so they are here at least. I just lost posts from last week.
