Moving has Started!

We started moving this weekend. We started with the boys rooms. Got all their beds taken down and moved over. (Boys are sleeping on the fouton mattress this week). Then we tackled the garage. The two biggest rooms of concern for moving was the garage, and Jack’s music/computer room.

Does anyone else find it ironic that the Two Biggest Rooms for Concern involve mostly Jack’s stuff? I think he is the Poster Child for “Boys and their Toys”: Saws, drills, clamps, vises, every-type-of-screw-known-to-man, hammers, wood scraps, stains, solvents, etc., etc., etc., and computers, computer parts, monitors, cables, guitars, amps, recording stuffs, more-computer-screws, etc., etc., etc., …. OH MY. :) I had a corner in the garage that was filled with my random crap.. but that’s it. A CORNER. And I was done packing it in less than an hour. ;) Granted, we also store all of our camping gear, SCA gear, and household cleaning stuff, and even food in the garage, but I don’t think any of it adds up to the toys Jack has. But we put a rather large dent into the moving project and I feel good about that. Once we get his music room tackled the rest should be a breeze.

We started to worry about the lack of response to help us move. I can’t blame people. They’ve helped us move before and know what a chore it is. Plus it’s cold this time of year (better than moving us in 96 degree weather, though!) As such we decided to fork over the $$ to hire movers to help. Of course Murphy’s Law steps in at that point because no sooner did I book and confirm the movers arriving on Saturday Feb 10th between 8 AM and 10 AM, we got more volunteers, including Jack’s dad, brother, my brother, and someone from Jack’s work. We are still going to use the movers though, since they provide the truck too and that’s one less thing to worry about. And it’s supposed to rain this weekend. Having professional movers with their own truck will be nice.. especially when it comes to moving that hottub! We’ll be working on doing what we can the rest of this week nightly after work.

While we were off in moving hell heaven, it sounds like we missed a great Founder’s Revel this year! And perhaps congrats are in order for LORD Cerdic?? Do tell!

  1. Now now, the record should state that Jack’s stuff is the heaviest of the stuff we’re not paying 300 pound Samoans to carry! (Hello 200 pound marble table! Hi 2 Fridges and Freezer, Hello 9,193,247 pound entertainment center!)

    (I also managed to take two truckloads of my crap to the dump!)

    But yeah, moving that music room is gonna be a bear…

  5. Deanna, we are officially moving the 10th. We started doing what we could this past weekend though, and will be moving as much as we can of the small stuff before the 10th so by the time we “officially” move, it should go pretty quick. :)
