Kellie
Kellie’s surgery was yesterday. She came through fine. We saw her last night and she was pretty tired and groggy, but that’s to be expected. She’s going to be sore and has quite a road of recovery and reconstruction ahead of her. I’m so proud of her bravery and courage through this!
Thanks, for the birthday wishes, Cathy. I miss you!!!
Shoes
I just got a call from the secretary at the kids’ school. Cody was at her office because somehow his shoes were tied together (the right and left shoe to each other). He had about of foot of play between the two shoes so he could still walk… mostly.
She couldn’t get the knot undone because it was massive and his laces were wet…. so she called to ask if she could cut the laces. I said either that or I have another pair I could run down to her. She said if she cut them there would still be enough laces to tie his shoes properly so I told her to go ahead and cut them.
The catch to this? Cody swore up and down that *I* did that! She asked him, “who tied your shoes together?” He said I did! And he was quite adamant about it. I did tie his shoes (separately) this afternoon before he got on the bus. My guess is some kid may have tied them together and he didn’t realize it. Kids!
In other news, we’re here at the new house and loving it. It’s amazing how much daily life can change when you change your surroundings. We couldn’t be happier in this new house. I absolutely love it!!
“I want a Cody. Not kids, just a Cody.”
That’s what a co-worker said to me today. This is after I told him about talking to Cody’s bus driver. I had to run out with him to the bus to tell the bus driver that starting Monday he’ll be picked up somewhere else.. and Cody kept interrupting me:
Me to bus driver: Starting Monday Cody will be picked up at a new location…
Cody: yeah we’re moving to a new house and my room has skylights
Me: Yes Cody. Anyway so yeah we’ll be moving and..
Cody: we’re moving in only 4 more days (holds up his fingers to show 4)
Me: Yes, 4 days. On Monday Cody will be picked up at…
Cody: and my room is SO big you can throw a football in it!
… etc .. he would NOT stop interrupting me to tell the bus driver how cool our house is and how excited he is.
The comment that my co-worker wants a Cody cracked me up. (He doesn’t have kids nor does he plan to but he thinks Cody is a hoot.) So I tried to discourage him by telling him about some of Cody’s quirks. For example, he recently decided that our toothpaste tubes in both bathrooms don’t need caps. So he took them off and put them into hiding. Or about how he has an obsession with small things. Not just shiny things or cute things, anything small. Dice, nails, pennies, worms, bugs, broken crayons, paper clips. I find handfuls of these things in his pockets when I do laundry. Or I find them in the bottom of the washing machine or dryer. Yesterday it was a lot of fun cleaning the brown crayon that melted all over a full load of clothes in the dryer that I missed in one of Cody’s pockets. (Cleaning it off the dryer walls was a blast!!)
Cody’s obsession with carrying around small things follows him to school as well. And I often find wooden shapes, or plastic airplane shapes in his pocket that he’s carried home from school. I’ve talked to his teacher about it. Part of it is her fault because she noticed too that he likes to have something small in his hand so she allows it.
<Sidetrack> Have I mentioned how much I like Cody’s kindergarten teacher? For Valentine’s this year, she thought it’d be more fun for the kids to make one big valentine to give to one person in their class and even provided the materials for it. Such a difference from Casey’s psycho kindergarten teacher. </Sidetrack>
Anyway, I reminded my co-worker about the blueberry incident, too. He only laughed and said he still wanted a Cody. I don’t get it.
Moving has Started!
We started moving this weekend. We started with the boys rooms. Got all their beds taken down and moved over. (Boys are sleeping on the fouton mattress this week). Then we tackled the garage. The two biggest rooms of concern for moving was the garage, and Jack’s music/computer room.
Does anyone else find it ironic that the Two Biggest Rooms for Concern involve mostly Jack’s stuff? I think he is the Poster Child for “Boys and their Toys”: Saws, drills, clamps, vises, every-type-of-screw-known-to-man, hammers, wood scraps, stains, solvents, etc., etc., etc., and computers, computer parts, monitors, cables, guitars, amps, recording stuffs, more-computer-screws, etc., etc., etc., …. OH MY.
I had a corner in the garage that was filled with my random crap.. but that’s it. A CORNER. And I was done packing it in less than an hour.
Granted, we also store all of our camping gear, SCA gear, and household cleaning stuff, and even food in the garage, but I don’t think any of it adds up to the toys Jack has. But we put a rather large dent into the moving project and I feel good about that. Once we get his music room tackled the rest should be a breeze.
We started to worry about the lack of response to help us move. I can’t blame people. They’ve helped us move before and know what a chore it is. Plus it’s cold this time of year (better than moving us in 96 degree weather, though!) As such we decided to fork over the $$ to hire movers to help. Of course Murphy’s Law steps in at that point because no sooner did I book and confirm the movers arriving on Saturday Feb 10th between 8 AM and 10 AM, we got more volunteers, including Jack’s dad, brother, my brother, and someone from Jack’s work. We are still going to use the movers though, since they provide the truck too and that’s one less thing to worry about. And it’s supposed to rain this weekend. Having professional movers with their own truck will be nice.. especially when it comes to moving that hottub! We’ll be working on doing what we can the rest of this week nightly after work.
While we were off in moving hell heaven, it sounds like we missed a great Founder’s Revel this year! And perhaps congrats are in order for LORD Cerdic?? Do tell!
*hugs to all*
Keys!
We got the keys!!
We’ll be starting to move over smaller stuff tonight and this weekend.
Here it is again:
