hahahahaha!

I did my little Christmas update here.

In case you didn’t notice, though, we’ve been a wee bit busy. That’s the reason this site is still decorated for Thanksgiving. I just haven’t had time to devote to online stuff other than work.

You also may have noticed that you didn’t get a Christmas card from us. Don’t feel bad. NO one did, so please don’t take it personally. I simply did not have the time nor energy (read the the post at the above link) to take that on as well. But I did think of all my friends/family and that matters, right??

Despite a lot of odd things happening, we did have a good Christmas overall. It was spent together, which is what it’s all about, and as a bonus everyone got some cool stuff and/or stuff they wanted. I’ll post pictures as soon as I find time to breathe.

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and has a fabulous New Year!

Sick

I got sick the week before Christmas. Just like I did the week before Thanksgiving (is there a theme here??). And not just a little sick like I did before Thanksgiving, but cough, fever, stuffy-head, aches, etc. (I sound like a commercial..)

It soooo threw me off. It all went downhill after that. For the final three days before Christmas, J and I were scrambling to catch up (while I’m still sick mind you); last minute food shopping, last minute gift shopping, racing to people’s houses to deliver gifts, meeting up with friends in town for dinner (that was fun at least), then hosting Christmas for my family at our house.

In the middle of that, my job had a pretty major crisis a couple days before Christmas. That took a full day out of the equation since I worked from 6 AM till about 9 PM that day.

Christmas eve we ordered pizza and opened the gifts from each other, watched Polar Express together, then sent the kids to bed. They couldn’t sleep so J and I watched Mr. and Mrs Smith waiting for them to finally conk out.

We got to bed around 2:30 AM Christmas eve/morning. At 4 AM there was massive (but quick) wind storm that woke up my kids who promptly spent the next 3 hours running, giggling, and whispering up and down the hall outside our bedroom waiting for the clock to turn 7 AM — The time we agreed they could wake us up. The made it till 6:52 AM actually. They woke us up with their own version of Jingle Bells (“Oh what fun it is to open presents on Christmas day!”) After we were done opening presents from Santa, J and I crashed on the couch. The idea was we’d take a “quick nap”. We slept 3.5 hours! ACK! I still had a huge meal to prepare.

As I was about to prepare the meal, I discovered we had forgotten a few vital ingredients for our menu. Last year we forgot stuff too but it wasn’t a big deal because some stores were actually open. Not this year. J drove all over and found nothing open. Nada. So I had to improvise.

If all that wasn’t crazy enough, the turkey came without a neck. What kind of turkey comes without a NECK?? And it wasn’t a cheap turkey. It was a “cage-free” organic one… with no neck. And since it was super expensive, non-frozen, organic, AND cage-free….

The Cell Phone Saga Continues

This is a sad story. But a very true story. Which is why it’s so sad.

For many years, Jack has carried a cell phone, a pager, and a palm pilot his work provided him. One day Cody (then 2 years old) thought he’d see what would happen if he threw the cell phone in the toilet. Nothing really exciting happened, so he pulled it back out and set it on his dad’s desk in a small puddle of toilet water. He wasn’t impressed with THESE results. Parents yelled and got all mad at him and stuff. That cell phone was laid to rest.

Another day, as Jack was shaving, he swears that his palm pilot committed suicide by jumping off the edge of the sink and into the murky, foamy water. I’m sure the palm pilot knew if it was dropped by Jack one more time, that’d be the end of it anyway. It already knew the fate of the pager. Read more

Jack lost his cell phone last week. The belt clip wasn’t strong enough I guess, because he said he’d knock it off all the time but always was aware when it happened. This time he has some idea where he lost it, somewhere in the big hospital but no luck finding it. He called me as soon as he knew it was missing and I promply got online and deactivated it. The lost and found system at the hospital is odd (you call and leave a message and they’ll call you if it’s found/turned in.) This isn’t the first time he’s lost/broken a cell phone.

Then last night we went to (gag) Wal*Mart. (I can’t stand Wal*Mart.) And while we were shopping I had my cell phone in my hand. At one point we were browsing a certain section and I remember setting it in the seat part of our basket, then feeling paranoid about it exposed while I had my back turned so I put it on the counter in front of me… then walked off and left it there.

It was probably a half hour later when I realized I didn’t have it. I was devastated. TWO cell phones lost in less than a week and mine is totally necessary for work. I was absolutely certain it’d be gone forever since the girls working at counter we were at knew nothing about it and said no one turned it in. She suggested I go to customer service and see if someone turned it in there. I did so thinking it was a waste of time..

But someone did turn it in and I got it back! And Jack was disappointed, haha! When he lost his last week, I told him that now we can get a nicer phone for the money we paid for his, and due to his history with the gadgets his work gives him, I’d be getting the new one. (And cellphone insurance while we’re at it. Who knew there was such a thing?) So he was actually pretty smug about me losing mine.. saying “ha, now we both get nicer new phones!”

Sorry, honey!
