Tots in Socks
Man…. why is it that kids can dirty up and stink up socks faster than you can say Tweedle Beetle Battle?
Is it just MY kids? They get brand new socks and within a week I swear they wore them outside (with no shoes) and stomped in every mud puddle they could find. And then, of course, losing one somewhere in the time it took them to rip them off their feet and stuff them in between the couch cushions.
We had this plastic container on top of the dyer and all mis-matched socks went into it and every time I did laundry I’d try to match them up. I’d always find some that did match, but then I’d find more that didn’t. So the container never emptied. In fact, it never budged.
I’ve always fantasized about throwing away ALL the socks in this house and starting over… but that just didn’t seem practical. I mean.. I buy my kids new socks all the time.. but it’s mostly a cycle system. Like, any with nasty holes or whatever get tossed and I’d buy them a few new pairs. But never of the same brand it seems, which makes matching them up even more of a pain: trying to remember who’s was who’s, socks that were similiar but not quite the same so not matched, etc. I’ve never just replaced them all at once.
Well, practical or not, today I did it. They are all gone. I gathered them all up and tossed ‘em all and bought each kid brand new socks. I even got a few pairs for myself (even though I didn’t have to throw any of *mine* away, I take care of my socks!). Each kid got totally different socks too. So, I’ll know who goes through them faster. And who’s leaving them on the floor. Or stuffed behind the entertainment center.
Lets see how long the new socks last.
If you’re wondering where I came up with “Teedle Beetle Battle”, Jack and Melissa just got done reading Fox in Socks, so I felt it fitting.
