Sicky Boy & Birthday Boy

Casey woke up not feeling well today. He said, “my throat hurts, my eyes hurt, and I have a tummy ache”. He felt warm too. He didn’t sleep well he said and he didn’t want to move from the couch after he got out of bed. The suspicious side of me asked if everything was ok at school. He said, ‘YES!’ and got a bit upset. He did want to go. Especially since Friday is Popcorn Day! (And Melissa agreed that if he felt good, he would go for Popcorn, if for nothing else.) So I gave him some motrin and he’ll be camping out on the couch. It’s times like these I’m beyond thankful that I work from home, and that I have a laptop I can work with so I can camp out on the couch next to my sicky boy.

I’ve taken on a new responsibility. The brand new next door neighbor has two girls. She’s a single mom work & works full time. When we introduced ourselves, one of the first things she asked me about was daycare around here. I gave her my honest answer of “I have no clue since I don’t have to put my kids in daycare and haven’t had any kids in daycare since Kevin was 2″. It turned out she only needed someone to watch her youngest daughter for a couple hours in the morning and a half hour at night. So I agreed to do it.

The catch: she has to drop her off at 5:30 AM. EEP. No one is awake in my house at that hour, so we decided we’ll be giving her a key to one of the locks to our house so she can drop her daughter off (still asleep) and leave. For the last two days we just left the door unlocked for her. She just lays her down on the couch and her daughter stays asleep. She sends over her clothes and breakfast and there isn’t much for me to do, except make sure she eats, and gets on the bus on time. She’s in 1st grade. She’s so quiet when she brings her in that we haven’t heard her yet and the dog doesn’t even bark! She’ll be paying me too which will be nice to have a little extra spending money.

This weekend is Jack’s birthday. Tomorrow is his actual birthday but we’re celebrating it on the 11th since I have to work on Saturday. He’s going to be 35! Yes, 35 years old. That’s almost 40! *snicker*

And the best part is his dad will be at the party on Sunday. This is a major first! The first time he’s ever been to our house. The first time he’s been to any event (other than babies being born) in Jack’s life in a decade! So we’re excited. :)

Cathy, I know you know who Clark Griswold is.. Chevy Chase…. the guy who can’t quite get things right… heh. Maybe this will spark your memory?
