The Gathering

Sorry for the lack of updates. I often think of fun witty little things I can post but by the time I am near the computer with free time to post (rare) I forgot what I was going to say!

This weekend we went to our first SCA event of the season, The Gathering. It was a blast! We were a rather large group with Ralph, Denise, Jason, Bronwyn, and Jason’s friends from Bellingham (who we’ve met online but not in person till this weekend), Monkey and his lady, and of course our brood of children. We camped near this beautiful ‘household’ (Daos) where I was green with envy at their purple and black castle-like tents. They were a rowdy bunch though, and kept us awake the first two nights but we got pay-back on the last night as our group out-lasted them. :)

The site was perfect. We had shade the entire weekend. The only drawback for some was how far and how hard of a walk it was to get to events. It was mostly uphill on the way there, but I enjoyed getting my workouts for the weekend. :) We must’ve made the walk 10 times this weekend, and once on the way back I had to carry Cody the whole way as he had fallen asleep. (Thankfully it’s downhill that way!) Katherine had given given Casey a piggy-back right on the way up, so she got a workout too!

Everyone got along great and the kids were well-behaved for the most part. We gave each kid a $10 allowance to purchase whatever they wished at Merchant’s row. Katherine got a new belt, Kevin got a belt, Melissa got a pretty fan and a hand-made hair wreath with roses on it, Cody picked out a boffer, Casey picked out some cool wrist guards, and Jackie picked out a knife he can wear on his belt, a ring, and little ladybug toy.

I’ll have pictures when I can find my camera. We haven’t even unloaded the car yet. We were just too tired yesterday and today we both go back to work so it will have to wait until tonight.

Energy!

After camping all weekend, I’m impressed with my new level of energy. I remember last year walking a bit, then wanting to go back to the campsite to sit and rest. This year, 34 lbs lighter, I only needed to ‘rest’ once, and that was because my feet were killing me from walking over bumpy grass fields with tons of huge holes, or gravel roads with big rocks. And the ‘rest’ was only for about 20 minutes and I was back up again. It’s motivating to keep on losing as I like having energy to do more!

Not the Meds…

Well, I’m back to taking my meds and feel fine, so it must’ve been a bug. That’s a relief!

Inch by Inch

I’ve been sick. (Boohoo). At first I thought I had food poisoning. I was violently ill Thursday night all night, then Friday I just felt dizzy and lathargic all day so Jack stayed home with me. Saturday and Sunday I felt a little better and we went even to see Star Wars (which is good!). But Monday I was back to being sick again. It was weird… yesterday I felt better again and today we’ll see how it goes.

The part the scares me is, I didn’t take the metformin when I was sick since I didn’t think that’d be wise. It can cause upset stomach and diahrrea as a side effect. So I didn’t take it Friday, Saturday, and then took it like normal Sunday. Then Monday I got soooo sick again so I didn’t take it. I’ve heard people can develop allergies to this so now I’m afraid to take it wondering if that’s the cause? I didn’t take it yesterday, but will try to take it today to see what happens.

I haven’t worked out that whole time and tried today. I wore out way too fast which tells me I may not be 100% back to normal.

I did lose another 3 lbs. I’m not sure if that’s from being sick, so I’ll wait a bit before I count it towards my total weight loss. (34 pounds).

I have NO idea how many inches I’ve lost so I decided to start tracking. I know it’s got to be a lot because we’re going to our first SCA camping trip of the year this weekend, and when I tried on my garb, none of it fit, which was bittersweet. I’m glad it’s too big (proof I’m losing inches!) but it looked stupid. I just got one of the dresses last year and have only worn it once! It’s sooo pretty too.

Our friend’s wife used to be a professional seamstress so she came over last night and determined 2 inches need to be taken in on either side on this dress and took it home with her to see what she could do. (That’s four inches total! woo) hehe Then this other bodice I had needed 8 inches taken in!! (but that was too big on me even last year..) And a pink dress I have needed 1.5 inches taken in on both sides (it fit snug before).

But this really motivated me to see exactly how many inches I’m losing because, really, that’s all the matters to me. :)

Mother’s Day

I hope all the moms had a wonderful mother’s day!

Mine was nice. The day started with breakfast in bed made by Jack. Then I was showered with gifts. Casey made me a pretty bead necklace and a pretty picture of a plant where his hand prints made up the leaves on the plant. Melissa wrote me a beautiful letter written in neat and careful cursive writing (she’s developing beautiful handwriting!) and gave me a bead necklace she made.

Jack and the kids gave me black pearls:
1. The collector’s edition DVD of one of my favorite movies, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
2. A beautiful pair of breath-taking Tahitian black pearl and diamond earrings.
3. A matching diamond and Tahitian black pearl necklace.

I can honestly say I’ve never considered black pearls before. I don’t think I’ve ever even seen one. But these are absolutely gorgeous and unique and I think I found my new favorite jewelry.

We watched most of the extras on the DVD (there was tons of stuff) and then the movie itself, took a short nap after, then went out to dinner. It was a nice day. I’m spoiled.

My mother did not have such a good mother’s day. I tried to get a hold of her a few times yesterday, but figured since she wasn’t home and not answering her call, she’s was out celebrating. Not so. Bob’s back in the hospital and has been intubated again. She woke up to him being confused and disoriented so she took him into the doctor’s where they admitted him, then had to move him to ICU, where they intubated him. His carbon dioxide levels were bad and since he was confused and out-of-it, he fought their treatments, so that’s why they had to intubate him.

There is still no real answer to why he’s having spells and falls… and my siblings and I are urging my mother to get a second or third opinion about what is really going on. Keep him in your thoughts if you could…
