Bob update
This was an email I sent to Jack that I meant to post here:
1. James can stay as long as needed. (He drove my mom to be with Bob on Monday) His work is being very understanding and told him he could take off as much time as needed so we don’t have to worry about rescuing mom from Hermiston.
2. They did *not* transport him to Portland yesterday. There were no beds available.
3. I asked her specifically WHY he’s still on the breathing tube and WHY he’s in a coma still because that wasn’t clear earlier. (I pushed for specific answers this time.) She said that they are purposely keeping him asleep (meaning at this point the coma IS all drug induced) because they didn’t want him to wake up with the breathing tube and panic, especially if they were going to transport him. Their plan was to keep him asleep and keep him on the tube while they transported him to make it easier on everyone, mostly him. That makes more sense!
4. They told her there could be brain damage. Right now they have NO idea how this affects him because A) They don’t have a clear idea how long he was passed out on the bus not getting oxygen. His O2 sat were 47 when they got to him, which is really bad. (Normal is 96-100). And B) they haven’t allowed him to wake up to do any tests. She said their main concern was to bring up his oxygen levels and they’ll determine everything else later.
5. So while we do know that the coma *is* their doing, we don’t know what’s gonna happen if they take the tube out and wake him up. And now we’re back to doing the “hurry up and wait” thing again because they don’t know if they will try to take out the tube and see what he does now, or wait still till they transport him to Portland.
6. Mom says once they take out the breathing tube he’ll probably be and feel all better. I don’t know if that’s her wishful thinking or if they are telling her that. I HATE HATE HATE that I can’t be there to get answers for myself. She’s so vague with many of the answers. I don’t know if she just doesn’t understand or if they aren’t telling her stuff or what.
6. Weather: If they plan to transport him this week (she’s confident they will before Friday) I won’t need to go. She’s got James and they have chains for the car… etc. The news just said the snow storm could bypass us all together but the wind storm has already hit the gorge. Eleanor (Bob’s sister) said the drive was fine. (She ended up taking Bob’s mom to Portland for her surgery and I think they beat the wind storm). And they don’t expect the wind storm to last past tomorrow afternoon. Either way, I won’t need to drive there since James can stay. I don’t need to go get myself stranded 300 miles from home, anyway, if we do get the snow storm.
So, in a nutshell, we still don’t know crap, but at least we know that the coma is drug induced.
It’s really an awful feeling to be so far away from my mom and Bob and not be able to do anything but site here and chew on my nails. It’s actually driving me quite nuts. ![]()
