Busy Beginning to the Holiday Season

Whew! We’ve been so busy around here. Wednesday was spent cleaning and shopping and preparing for the Thanksgiving feast the next day. Thursday was Thanksgiving and we had my mom, stepdad, his brother, my sister, my brother, my nieces, my nephew, plus all our kids here for a meal that turned out better than I expected. I experimented with a ham in the crockpot in addition to the traditional stuffed turkey and there were *no* leftovers. I think it was a hit. In fact, compared to previous years, we had nowhere near the leftovers of turkey, potatoes, etc. we usually do!

Friday and Saturday I had to work, then yesterday Ralph and Denise came over and we went and cut down our Christmas tree. We came home to discover we’d left behind the wreath we’d purchased as well, so Denise, Katherine and I ran back and got that. Then we put up our lights. This year we picked up a new train for the roof and another reindeer (one that is laying down) for the yard. It took several hours of HARD work (kudos to Jack and Ralph) but when it was done it was so pretty! We had gawkers! (People who slowed down to look as they drove by) and that was the best compliment in my opinion.

Once we were done with the outside, we put the tree up and decorated it. The little boys went into action. Casey and Cody were sooo cute hurrying to get as many ornaments on the tree that they could. Cody had to stand on the edge of the couch to reach higher places. And they did such a good job that I ended up sitting and letting them do most of it. In some places on the tree we have these little clusters of the same color ornaments, but you know what? It’s so cute I’m not going to “fix” it. :)

I’d have a few pictures if only I could find my camera… lol. :)

The Holidays were Harder than I Expected

I didn’t do so well with eating a “diabetic diet” over Thanksgiving. I did have only one plate with smaller portions, so that’s good… in fact, on Thanksgiving day I did great. It was the leftovers after that got me. We didn’t have *that* many left overs but I ended up eating leftover stuffing AND potatoes for lunch the next day and the shot my BG up to 180. :( Since I had blown it, I felt justified in eating a piece of pumpkin pie with whipped cream after dinner. lol It was a small one.. but you know, it made me feel like crap so I just have to remember that feeling for the next time. I do NOT enjoy feeling yucky at all. (And I wonder how I lived feeling like that for so long without noticing something was wrong??) So I’ve done better since then and feel much better, now, especially with how active I was yesterday.

I picked up a scale yesterday and finally weighed myself. I was shocked to see that I’ve only lost 5 lbs!!! I know I’ve lost inches. My clothes are more loose, my bras don’t fit so I couldn’t believe I’ve only lost 5 lbs! A friend weighed herself too to be sure it was correct, and it was. So we’re thinking it’s possible that since I’m more active now that I’ve converted the weight to muscle? I’ll go with that. It makes sense because I’ve definitely lost the inches. I was just so suprised I had not lost much actual weight.

Now to keep my self from becomming obsessed with my scale…

Happy Thanksgiving!

So, I’m a day early. But I know I won’t have time tomorrow to post so here’s wishing everyone a very happy Thanksgiving!

We’ll have a house full of people tomorrow. Today will be spent preparing for the day. Cleaning, preparing the foods that can be made ahead of time, etc. And, I get to go to the store to buy some last minute items. Oh joy. LOL (I’m sure it will be very busy today!) Luckily I have the day off.

Jack has (had?) some weird issues with one of his bottom teeth. It started Saturday night. He was up all night in pain. Same for Sunday night. Monday he took a sick day and went to the dentist. They found nothing in the x-ray. This is a tooth that has had a root canal and a buildup. So he’s invested a lot of time and money into this tooth. The doc told him he had two option, wait it out and hope whatever the issue is goes away, or pull it. He decided to wait it out. But Monday night was unbearable for him and again he got no sleep.

Tuesday morning I found him sitting cross-legged on the fouton in the family room with pillows behind his head. Poor guy. Every time he layed down the pain was so bad. So he decided to call the oral surgeon who did the root canal and see what they had to say… He was considering having it pulled. But they said they were busy and couldn’t see him till Monday. Ugh. So he had no choice but to wait it out.

Fortunately as the day progressed (with him trying desperately to get a nap to no avail) it got better. And last night he finally was able to sleep. Yay. So he’s working today then has tomorrow and Friday off. Lets hope whatever it is goes away!!

So that’s what’s been happening in our little world lately.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I’m Thankful for Chocolate Milk

New find: Hood Carb Countdown “Atkins Approved” chocolate milk, sweetened with Splenda. Only 3 grams of carbs per 1 cup serving. It’s actually quite good.

In some ways I think I get more treats now that I’ve been diagnosed with Diabetes. I’m always on the lookout for good stuff I can have. And while I’m not an advocate of the Atkins diet, nor am I on the Atkins diet, I’m thankful it’s out there because companies are making things with lower carbs that I can eat! woo..

I’m thankful for a lot of things this thanksgiving. Not just chocolate milk. :)

In no particular order…
My family
My dear sweet husband who I adore
My home
My job
My health (because despite it all, I’m actually pretty healthy)
My friends
… and much more.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I’m wearing my wedding band…. for the first time… in five years.

When they sized my wedding set, the wedding band was about a half a size smaller than the engagement ring. So for the first couple years I didn’t wear it because to get it re-sized, we’d have to take a 40 minute drive out to Beaverton. We never have a reason to go out there. Plus I kept thinking I’d just lose weight then I could wear it. A couple years ago I discovered I could wear the engagement ring by itself so that’s what I’ve been wearing.

Today, I tried on the wedding band and it fit. I can finally wear my wedding ring set!
