Scream at the Beach

Boo! A few weeks ago, my sister and her family invited us to go to Scream at the Beach. We took the older kids (that wanted to go) through the various haunted houses and in one of the them, this “ghoul” came up behind Katherine and whispered in a sinister voice, “Kaaaatheerrrinnnnnne” and of course she jumped about 100 feet in the air and was completely wigged out that he knew her name. But it turned out to be a boy from her school who was there volunteering.

So, this started Kevin and Katherine begging to volunteer to be ghosts/monsters. It turned out if they were under 16 parents had to be there, but they could volunteer. So we chose to do it last night. And Jack and I volunteered too, while the younger kids stayed the night at my mom’s.

It was sooo much fun! We all got to work on the same attraction (Forbidden Temple) which is the scariest one. They are all very scary and some of the best haunted houses I’ve ever seen, but “Forbidden Temple” is done so well it’s been featured on the news a few times. Jack got to help the “chef” looking for “morsels for dinnnnnerrrrr”. Kevin got to be a ghost that hid behind a window and would jump out at people as they walked by, and Katherine got to be a “statue” who would suddenly step out at people as they walked by. I got to be a ticket taker. We would take groups of 6-10 at a time, and me and another ghoul (girl) took turns where one would take tickets, while the other one gathered them up and went over the rules. I had the most fun being the one to go over the rules because we could say it however we wanted as long as we covered the basic rules (cell phones off, no flash lights, no touching props/monsters, and that there were emergency exits if they got too scared) because at the end of my spiel, I’d tell them not to go too fast, but not to go too slowwwww (long dramatic pause) because if they got lost… we’d never find them. lol People loved it!

It was really nice to spend some time with our older kids doing something THEY wanted to do. With the age ranges of our kids we always have to do stuff that little kids can do too and I know it gets boring for our older ones sometimes who want to do other stuff geared more towards them. Last night was perfect and they had so much fun. Two thousand people came through our houses last night… (ours was “next door” to Baron Von Gooloo’s House of Wayward Girls” lol) and we were quite busy!

We added to our Halloween 2004 Album with pictures of the kids carving pumpkins the other night and Jack, Kevin, and I in costume for the haunted house. Somehow I did not get one of Katherine :(.
