The gloves came off today at work.
So most of you know that the hospital I work for outsourced there I.S. department about 6 months ago.
We were all guaranteed 6 months employment according to the contract between our new company and the hospital.
Those 6 months end today.
Many people have been told ?Your position has been eliminated? today.
No ?Thanks for your hard work?? No ?Is there anything we can do??
Just? ?You are terminated effective immediately.?
Some people have a 1 or 2 month transition period, where their employment remains intact until as far out as January 31st.
For most, that?s not the case.
I?m just very thankful today that when I went in to speak with the henchman from HR, I found that I still have my job.
I?m so relieved that words cannot express how I feel, but it?s impossible to celebrate while so many of your Co-Workers are cleaning out their desks with these guys in black suits looking over their shoulders. (Some weren?t even given the option of sending out one last farewell Email.)

“We were all guaranteed 6 months employment according to the contract between our new company and the hospital.”
I’d also like to point out that while they were guaranteed only 6 months of employment, Jack and his co-workers did not expect this to happen, at all. The new employer made it sound like it wasn’t going to be an issue.
Either they didn’t intend to do this or they didn’t want people quitting before the 6 months were up. I don’t know. All I know is that all day today I’ve been on pins and needles till we found out Jack still had his job, and while I too am relieved, I feel awful for those who were terminated today with NO warning whatsoever. It doesn’t make me feel good about Jack’s current position with this company.
We’re ok for now, but many of Jack’s longtime co-workers are not. Say a little prayer for them if you could. I’m sure they could all the positive vibes they can get.
Wow that is scary, Great to hear you still have your job!
Wow, what a shock for everyone. I am so glad to hear that your were still employed. That’s a horrible thing to do to thoes people.
I’m glad you still have your job, Jack. I hope those other people get picked up somewhere real soon. Are you going to start looking for another job?
Sounds to me like the people at the new company have been actually watching all those tickets and all the complaints even including that time you got wrote up Jack and they decided that out of all of them you and maybe a few others were the only ones there that actually 1 knew yer job and 2 did it. Just what it looks like to me they took a 6 month pierod to see who they wanted to keep on thier payrole and you “won”.
For what its worth
congrats.
Ralph
Ouch, thats pretty harsh.. I’m happy you got to keep your job Jack, definately feel bad about your co-workers though.. that would be pretty difficult to deal with. So do you have your job until the end of January or is this more of a long term thing?
Good luck!

They did something similar at Rockwell where Tony works. They took the systems department, including configured drives where Tony was lead person and moved it to Richland Center shortly before I moved here. In the process they fired the whole department (minus leads and other management)and had them escorted out by security guards. Tony moved to another department. When he could see the shuffling going on again and thus knew the end result we made the decision to give notice and just draw from the IRA until he got something new. With 17 years at Rockwell under his belt, we didn’t need the draw. He was snatched up by JC Controls. We hear now that the Mequon Division has been sold and that the systems department they moved to Richland Center is moving to Mexico.
It’s terrible, it’s scary and it’s just NOT NICE. Glad you weathered it, Jack!
Jack should have his job long term. But… with this company. Who knows.
The company that we outsourced to has always talked of being a “Team” and how we’re one big family. Yet there’s never been any kind of effort to make people FEEL like a team. It’s a total “Us versus Them” atmosphere there.
They walk around in their suits, hold private meetings and keep themselves closed up in their little offices reading reports and doing who knows what.
I have about a dozen bosses now, yet I know the names of two of them.
It’s a job. It’s money. So I’ll stay.
Until I can figure out what to do next.
Good luck Jack. The corporate world is often innundated with a sea of B.S., I’m just glad you didn’t get caught up in this wave. Hopefully your employers see how great you are like we all do and keep you on. *hugs*
I am sorry to hear about your coworkers but I am glad you still have your job. I can’t even imagine how stressful today must have been for both you and Tracie. Hugs for you both.
The suits! I’ve heard of them! Tony said almost the exact same thing!
I’m glad that you still have your job Jack - I know how really stressful it can be when you don’t have a job or living in uncertainty as to whether you’ll have one tomorrow or not. Will say a prayer for all your co-workers, hopefully they’ll all find something soon …
When I first read this, I got a sick feeling in my stomache having been through this a few times but in the shoes of your co-workers I must say it sucks!!! But then at the end all was well. No need for me to ride a rollercoaster now! I should have known they would keep you though Jack, after all I did work with each of you, and I know who actually worked and who did not. Out of curiosity who is still there besides you? If you don’t want to post others misfortunes send me an Email bout it.
