What Kevin can and cannot eat

Kevin got his braces put on today. I watched the whole process. It was interesting. He said it wasn’t a big deal. At first he said it didn’t hurt at all but by the time we got home, one place in particular was bothering him. He took some Motrin then crashed on the couch. He and Cody have been asleep since. (We did have to get up way before they were used to getting up so they were tired from that anyway. The appointment was at 7:30 AM.)

He stuck with getting blue and black braces. They look nice. He starts out with a light wire at first. We are to get the four remaining baby teeth pulled by his next appointment in November, where he will get his head gear. Right now they are working on getting the spaces closed between the teeth.

I’m attaching a document for any of you who might end up being his care-giver for any reason (I.e.: he spends a day with you or you watch him and the other kids while Jack and I are away, etc.) because he has a list of things he cannot eat. The short version of the list is: Anything that is sticky, hard, chewy, etc. No hard candies, no popcorn, no corn chips, no meat on the bone, no chewing on ice, no pop unless it’s sugar-free, etc. Here’s the document in Word format.

There were a couple kids there at the same time getting their brackets/bands fixed because they ate things they were not supposed to eat and damaged their braces. I’m kinda glad we got to see that, because I hope this means Kevin will take good care of his braces.

Other things to note: no rough-housing when he has his head gear on. If he plays sports he needs to wear a mouth guard to protect his lips and mouth from injury in case of a blow to the mouth area. With the braces, even a soft blow could hurt the inside of his lips and mouth. Read more

Anniversary Dinner Cruise

Here are pictures of our dinner cruise on the Portland Spirit.

This week we’ve been busy as usual. My sister and her family stole Melissa and Casey away for a getaway at the beach so we just have Kevin and Cody till Tuesday or Wednesday. Kevin gets his braces on first thing tomorrow morning. It turns out our insurance is *not* going to cover most of it but … that’s ok. He needs it done and we’ll work it out. His orthodontist is very willing to work with us on the payments and such so that’s a good thing.

We got a new entertainment center! It arrived yesterday. It’s gorgeous! And huge! Here’s a picture:

Isn’t it cool? All the pieces are separate so if we ever got a big screen tv or something, we can pull out the center piece and use it for something else. You can widen and shorten it to suit your needs. There’s lights inside both cabinets (which are bare right now as you can see). It’s one of the nicest pieces of furniture we’ve ever owned! And it looks so much better in our huge living room than that other piece of crap entertainment center we had. lol

Jack has been kicking ass at work and things are much better in that area. He’s been recognized for his hard work a few times from other co-workers and clients … which makes life at work much easier for him.

Funny thing: remember our garage sale flop? Well, our neighbor next door is having a garage sale this weekend. She said we could put some stuff in her sale. So we did. Yesterday, in one day, we made more selling stuff at her garage sale than we made in the entire weekend at our own garage sale. lol. I’m not complaining though! I’m just happy to be rid of some things taking up room in our garage and have a little cash to show for it as well.

I hope everyone is doing well!

*hugs* xxxooo

No Rainbow Teeth :(

Our weekend was awesome! We had a blast. The day spa was wonderful and relaxing and the dinner cruise was just awesome. Full of surprises and very romantic. It was a very special anniversary. Pictures later.

Other news: Kevin is getting his braces! Finally…. We took him to the dentist in April knowing that he’d need *something* with his very obvious overbite. But we’d also been stalling because his last dentist said that he needed all or at least most of his baby teeth gone before they started.

Well, the new dentist discovered his upper gums were being damaged by his bottom teeth since when he chews, there is impact. He said it couldn’t wait anymore. But then we had insurance switch-overs with Jack’s job out-sourcing so we had to wait that out.

So finally, we got it started today. A normal overbite is 2-3 milimeters. Kevin’s is 12. :( He got the spacers put in today and the braces will be put on his teeth on Monday.

Since he’s still got four baby teeth left, he’ll have to have them pulled over the next couple months. Then they will wait for his adult teeth to come in and they’ll apply the braces to the new teeth. He’ll also have to wear head gear at home and at night.

At least they make braces fun now. He can choose what colors to wear… he chose blue and black. I tried to talk him into getting all the colors and having rainbow teeth but he didn’t go for it. :)

I got a raise! I was so shocked. They told me they would review my pay rate over the next couple months after I got my promotion…. well that was only two weeks ago so I expected it would be another month and a half at least before I got one (if at all) but they emailed me today. It’s a dollar more an hour and starts September 1st. So I’m a happy camper. :)

I sooo love my job!
