Updates

I really need to do better about updating this thing… but being a full time working mom now, it can be hard. Especially since my job requires that I sit at my computer all day. By the time I’m off work, this is basically the last place I want to be, lol. I’ve got a new layout and possibly even a new program for this site. The graphical layout is nice (another one I have been working on from a photo I took) but converting it to CSS has been challenging for me and I don’t have the time to sit and troubleshoot it.

The new blogging program is Wordpress… I’ve been thinking about switching for a long time and had downloaded an older release a long time ago. But then when I decided to go for it, I downloaded the newest release and there were major issues with it: a bug where you couldn’t log in after logging out, which sorta makes it worthless, so I gave up. Now Lunarpages has Wordpress available with a one click install, so I might try again. Can’t beat “easy”. I’m just scared to convert and risk losing all our archives. I’m chicken.

This week we’ve been busy getting ready for a trip to California for An Tir West War (SCA event). And for the first time ever, we’re going without the kids. It feels weird, especially since also for the first time ever, we won’t be with our children for the 4th of July. But the opportunity was there, and we could use a break, so we are going for it. The kids will be with my sister who they adore and always have a blast with and might even get to go camping or hiking with as well!

Jack’s missed two days of work this week. He’s been nursing a toothache for a while now, but it got bad Friday and Saturday. Sunday it felt better but then it got bad again so he took yesterday off then went to the dentist today. What was supposed to be a cavity filling ended up being oral surgery because it was so bad. Poor guy. He’s in a lot of pain. I know how that feels after the fiasco last year with the abscess in my tooth. That kind of pain is just debilitating.

And lastly, here’s pictures of a quilt rack Jack restored. We just hung it last night. We found it at a garage sale for $1.00. It was painted an awful pink color and one of the end pieces was broken. Jack created another end piece out of scrap wood we had, sanded it down and re-finished it. Looks brand new! The quilt is one that his grandmother made for Cody when he was a baby.

One year ago today…

… We became homeowners! Technically, we signed on the 26th, but it was recorded and we got the keys on the 27th. I cannot believe a whole year has gone by. It’s FLOWN. In honor of our one year anniversary of being homeowners, here’s some pictures of the house. Some you might’ve seen before, and some are low quality because they were taken before we got a good camera.

Edit: Pictures moved to here.

The quality of our life has improved a lot since we bought this house. Even our kids are happier. We are happy with the neighborhood, we get along great with our neighbors, taking walks is always enjoyable… There’s a park with nature trails and an open field perfect for throwing a baseball around or playing frisbee. Just all the “little things” that make it all so nice. We may not have a lot of money, but we are very rich. Very rich indeed.

Worried Mommy…

Today is Casey’s field trip with his class at school to the zoo. The flier said they were going rain or shine and to dress accordingly. Well, it’s been 90 or above all week. The forecast today was mostly sunny with high of 80. I figured shorts, sandals, and sunscreen was appropriate. I even sent an extra sunscreen sample with him (thanks to the ones ‘Nees gave me the other day when Richie came over to play with Casey in the water on a hot day).

It was overcast this morning but that doesn’t mean anything…. usually. According to all reports, it would burn off early and be warm today. It was a bit chilly this morning though, and I asked Casey if he wanted a jacket or sweater before he left. He said no because he didn’t want to end up having to carry it all over the zoo once it got hot. Fair enough. Did it clear up though? Noooooo. In fact, it’s still downright chilly and on top of that, it’s drizzled a few times. GRRRR

So here I sit, worried that he’s cold. Worried that he might get wet. Good ole Northwest weather. *sigh* :( I’m sure he’ll be fine, but still. I wish I would’ve made him take the jacket anyway.

To the awesome Fathers we know…

Well, it’s been another busy few weeks! We’ve got a whole lot of not much happening, but it seems to take ALL our time! We picked up a 14,500 btu air conditioning unit two days ago in anticipation of this hot streak and it looks like we got it just in time!

It’s beautiful outside, but nice to go back into a frosty house.

I sent off my application yesterday for “You know what” (Those of you that already know what I’m trying out for will know, and if you don’t know, then that message isn’t for you yet heheh.) One one hand, it’s a HUGE weight off my shoulders to be DONE with it! On the other hand, I’ve got anticipation galore.

I quit smoking almost two weeks ago! (With a few modest indiscretions mingled in)

I’ve also been running and working out regularly to get into shape. GAWD it hurts! After smoking almost 20 years, and not running regularly for 15 years I’ve got an uphill battle ahead of me, but Kevin and Melissa are wonderful about motivating me to run! (Even little Casey wants to run with me, so I’ll let him do 1/2 of our 2 mile run/walk today.)

I hope things are going well for you and yours, and have a great Fathers Day dads! :D

Jack
