Birthday Celebration

This picture basically sets the theme for last night. Kids having a ball and not slowing down for pictures. I forgot the camera (bad me) so Jack took some with his palm pilot. It’s slow so the pictures don’t come out well when you’re trying to catch a kid on the go. Most of the pictures he got were the sides of our kids faces as they weren’t patient enough to hold still for a pose. Let alone long enough to give us a posed smile that lasted longer than 1.3 seconds. (They did plenty of smiling on the go but the camera on Jack’s palm pilot isn’t quick enough to capture those unless you want to see some funky blurred pictures, hehe.)

We celebrated at Smokey’s complete with pizza, cake, and ice cream. Cody opened the presents from my family over the weekend so…. there weren’t any to open at our gathering at Smokey’s. What kind of parents are we anyway? Hehe well, Cody’s birthday present was a big surprise. We wanted to get him something that he’s currently in love with and that will keep his interest for years to come.

After the kids were done riding the rides and playing games… wait, that didn’t sound right. When are kids “done” riding rides and playing games? Nevermind. Ok so when the parents were ready to go, we piled the kids into the car and went across the street to the pet store. Jack was carrying Cody and when we got to the fish department, Cody’s face lit up and he pointed and squealed, “Fishies! Fishies!”

Cody’s present was a 10 gallon fish tank complete with cool decorations and six fish. I thought about wrapping the accessories but I didn’t think he’d get it and was afraid he’d think they were just toys. Doing it this way turned out to be fun. Every one got to chip in and buy a fish (Kevin even used his allowance to buy three marble mollys [mollies?]). Cody got to pick out which decorations to put inside the tank. He chose some blue colored grass, some green colored grass, a pretty bright green plant, a rock with holes, and a pink coral thingie. (I picked out a small little dragon too.)

Cody has been fascinated with fish ever since Finding Nemo came out. And it’s also his favorite movie. He was very excited to have his own fish and it’s something we’ll all enjoy. As a bonus, one of the mollies (or as we call them, the oreos) gave birth last night to a bunch of babies. So far we know of at least four survivors that have lasted almost 24 hours. Keep your fingers crossed that the others don’t keep eating them (bad fishies!) and that at least one will survive. It’s so neat! All that’s left to get for the tank is a back drop so you can’t see the ugly cords behind it. You can’t see all the fish every well but here’s a couple pictures:

Nice writeup! It was very fun, and when I came home from work yesterday Cody was standing on a chair staring into the fish tank with wide and excited eyes. I think we did good. :D
