Wreck the halls it?s Christmas Season
You probably know by now that we have our Christmas tree up. If you have been reading our updates this month you even know that we decorated our house and setup the most beautiful Christmas tree we?ve ever had. We put our sentimental old ornaments on it, as well as around 6 or 7 boxes of shiny brand new ones.
Flash forward to last night?.
So I went to Taco Bell to pickup some quick dinner last night, and when I got home I walked through the living room oblivious to the carnage that lay before me. It wasn?t until I saw the child gate had been setup to block off the family room from the rest of the house, and saw the kids all standing there staring into the living room that the ?Hmmm.. I think I might have just walked past a train wreck and not noticed it? alarm went off in my head.
I turned to see a living room floor covered in colorful broken glass, water, pine needles, soggy presents, various ornament artifacts and a string of lights strewn across the floor.
My rambling thoughts?
?How could this happen???. ?Our tree stand was state of the art!?? ?It had a 5 point support system on the base!??.?It was setup perfectly!?
Then I look for the dog?
This is when Tracie tells me that Randy (Our dog) had somehow gotten his leg wrapped up in the string of lights and proceeded to run away from the tree until it came crashing down in a massive explosion of water and broken glass.
An hour and a half later, thanks to a lot of elbow grease, a shop vac, steam cleaner and our regular vacuum cleaner I managed to clean and dry the carpet, pluck out the broken ornaments from the tree, re-run the garland and repair then re-run the lights?. Then we had a ?Let?s decorate the tree again? party and put the rest of the decorations back on the tree.
Anybody wanna borrow a 1 year old golden retriever for the holidays?

Oh my! Glad no one was hurt! Is Randy terribly afraid of the tree now? Poor thing!
I’m sure he was for all of 5 minutes.
I’m so sorry about Randy and the tree. You need one of those baby/dog play pen fences to put up around the tree and all the presents. But you know dogs grow up much faster than kids and next Christmas he’ll be calm and just wonderful.
oh my gosh…..i wonder HOW Randy got his leg in the lights in the first place, he would have had to have been climbing the tree or a child thought it would be funny to decorate the dog with the closest thing to do so with.
Jack, you are a wonderful story teller, I was almost in tears. Sorry to hear about the tree. I have been reading your entries to Sarah and she says she can’t wait till she grows up and has a family and a house of her own. I know I am ready for her to have her own place. lol
I’m glad Casey wasn’t hurt. It sounds like you made lemonade out of your lemons.
