Discrimination
Unbelievable…
The music next door has continued. The only time we don’t hear it is when they aren’t home. It’s gotten BEYOND annoying. Today I asked my neighbors *behind* me if it bothered them too. They said probably not as much as me since I’m directly next door but they could definitely hear it. Their unit isn’t connected at all so I felt better that I wasn’t just being overly sensitive about it. That it really is THAT loud. Through this I’ve been in contact with the landlords. The landlords have sent them a 10 day notice to comply. They received it and ignored it.
My landlord just called me and said they are transferring the family to a new unit on the other side of the complex. The reason why? The family in this unit claims they are being discriminated against.
It is very very VERY hard for me NOT to feel angry about this. For one, I was geniunely disappointed that they would not be reasonable with US over the music! We were nice, we tried to be welcoming, I even told her I wanted to get along and maybe our kids could play together. Why do I feel like *I* am the one being discriminated against here?
Fine, I’m glad they are moving if that’s how they want to be but I’m angry that my landlords are put in a tough legal position because they refuse to turn their stereo down. It’s unbelieveable to me.
My landlord sounded pretty frustrated and said because they pulled this, they have to be very careful on how they procede with things and now walk on a thin line. She said if they move them and their new neighbors complain, then they can kick them out. But they can’t do it over one incident because the family is claiming discrimination.
How nice is it to be able to move to a foreign country and do whatever the heck you want then claim discrimination if someone tells you it’s not ok to do? That is so wrong…
I told her I didn’t want them kicked out. I just wanted them to turn the music down! That I’m NOT discriminating against them. It could be my BROTHER and I would still complain. She said she knew that and she knew *I* wasn’t discriminating them.. they are the ones being accused of it by asking them to comply.
I feel awful. I know it’s not my fault. But.. *sigh* I don’t know. I just think this is so so so wrong!

Ask yourself one question. If it were only music you liked that was being played…or even your favorite music, would you complain of the volume? The answer will tell you if your discriminating.
ps. You can discriminate against a type of music as well as a type of people. I can’t handle rap personally…
For me, it’s more the THUMP THUMP THUMP of the Bass… if the music has excessive Bass, then the effect will be greater. In that way, the type of music matters, but there’s a LOT of different types of music that have that. Rap, Blues, Folk, Metal to a small extent.
